Wolves beat TrojansBy John Miller - Special to the PicayunePublished Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune It was a case of David vs. Goliath, only this time Goliath won. Parkers Chapel paid a visit to Prescott Friday night and went home smarting from a 62-13 drubbing at the hands of the Curley Wolves. This puts the Wolves at 6- 1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. Prescott won the toss, elected to receive and fumbled the opening kick with the Trojans recovering at the Wolf 5. Quarterback Jacob Midyett ran twice, losing three on first down, before scoring to put his team up 6-0. The point after was no good, but the visitors led with 10:42 with the fans not settled in their seats. This, though, only served to irritate the Wolves as the offensive onslaught began shortly thereafter and didnt end until the third quarter. The kick was returned to the 49 by James Colbert. From there DeMarcus Collier carried four times in the five-play drive to tie the game. The PAT was no good, but the score was knotted at 6-6 with 9:27 showing. It was three and out for the Trojans, with Prescott taking over at its 39 following a punt. Termain Henderson missed connection with Kalin Hall on first down and the Wolves went back to the ground attack. Collier carried twice to the Trojan 31 before Hall added a couple of runs to move the ball to the 19. Four plays later, all runs by Collier, Prescott had a 12- 6 lead and never looked back. The PAT made it 13-6 with 4:57 on the clock. Again the Trojans were unable to mount a drive and lined up to punt. The kick was blocked with Parkers Chapel recovering at the 3 where Prescott took over. Henderson hit B.J. Haynie for the third touchdown of the period with 3:19 left. The PAT put the Wolves up 20-6. Starting at the 20 the Trojans moved backwards to their 8 where the team was forced to punt yet again. Prescott took over at the Trojan 34 with 27.8 seconds in the first. Henderson hit C.J. Smith for a gain of 14, and then connected with brother Jermaine to the six as the first quarter ended. Period two opened with T. Henderson finding Haynie in the end zone for six more. The PAT made it 27-6 with 11:54 to go in the half. Prescott scored four more times in the second quarter as Parkers Chapel was helpless. The Trojans were unable to mount anything resembling a drive and more often than not wound up heading toward their own end zone. Prescott had a touchdown called back on an illegal block to the back call, but this only delayed the inevitable for three snaps as the Wolves went in to make it 34-6 with 8:15 left. Following another punt the Wolves marched 55 yards in four plays before Collier scored from the 14 with 1:42 in the half. The point after made it 41-6 and ensured the mercy rule would be in effect at the start of the third period. But, Prescott wasnt done scoring in the first half. With less than two minutes to go the Wolves put two more touchdowns on the board. The first came after Seth Easterling recovered a Trojan fumble at the Parkers Chapel 31. T. Henderson hit Hall for a quick six. The PAT made it 48-6 with 1:12 left. Three runs went nowhere and the Trojans punted with 37.2 seconds on the clock. Prescott took over at its 29. T. Henderson found a wide open Haynie in the flat and 69- yards later it was 54-6. The PAT boosted the score to 55-6 with 15.5 seconds to go. Following the kick, Midyett did the smart thing and took a knee to run out the clock. The second half lasted a total of 25 minutes and saw each team score one more time. The Trojans got the ball to start but had to punt. Prescott, all substitute players, ran five plays and punted for the first time. This was the only time the Wolves failed to score on a drive, with the exception of the final possession of the game. Still, though, the Trojans came up empty and punted. KeAndrae Balance fielded the punt at the Wolf 43, found a seam and raced 57 yards for the score. The PAT made it 62-6 with 1:38 left in the third. Prescott kicked off to start the final 12 minutes, with the Trojans starting at their 25. Midyett carried four of the seven plays, scoring on a 9-yard run with 5:50 left in the game. The point after made it 62-13. The officials did what they could to help run the clock by taking their time in setting up between plays and letting time tick off. Neither coaching staff complained. Prescott ran three plays after the final Trojan touchdown, moving from the Wolf 27 to the Trojan 43 as time expired. Unofficial statistics were as one-sided as the score. Prescott hit 10 of 15 passes for 218 yards and six touchdowns. The Trojans completed four of 10 for 2 yards. Prescott had 20 first downs, to six for Parkers Chapel. Midyett was sacked three times, while Henderson was untouched. Prescott was flagged five times for 70 yards, while the Trojans were penalized twice for 15. The Wolves ran the ball 23 times for 213 yards, averaging 9.6 yards a carry. Parkers Chapel rushed 28 times for 63 yards or 2.2 yards per carry. Collier carried 13 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns. The Wolves racked up a total of 431 yards, while yielding 89, with 75 of this coming on the Trojans 75-yard fourth quarter scoring drive. Prescott fumbled once, losing it, while the Trojans put the ball on the ground twice, losing one. The Wolves will be on the road the next two weeks, heading to Drew Central on Oct. 24. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
