Fall Fest on tap

Nevada County merchants

and organizations are turning

out in force to make the

October Trade Days and Fall

Festival a great event. The days

activities are slated to begin at 9

a.m. Oct. 11 and run through 4

p.m.

Activities planned includes

live music on the Nevada

County Courthouse lawn, community

wide garage sale, bake

sales, craft walks, funnel cakes,

a pageant for boys and girls, a

pumpkin carving contest, pie

eating contest, dunking booth,

coloring contest and much

more.

The coloring contest is open

to anyone under 18 in the county.

Children will be judged in

four categories and may color,

paint or draw any fall or

Halloween picture. The artist

should put his or her name, age

and school attended on the back

of the drawing. Drawings

should be 8X10 and can be

either a colored picture or an

original drawing.

The coloring contest is being

sponsored jointly by the

Nevada County Picayune and

Firestone Building Products.

Drawings must be turned in no

later than Saturday morning

during the festival. Winners

will be announced the following

week. Winners in each of

four age categories will be presented

prizes.

The festival pageant is being

sponsored by Stacy Jester and

Carrie Nivens. The pageant is

open to boys age 3 and under,

and girls age 9 and under. There

will be a $20 entry fee and winners

of each category will win a

sash and crown. Contestants

must wear fall casual attire

and entry forms can be picked

up at Alliance Insurance and the

chamber office. Winners will be allowed to ride in upcoming parades, representing the Fall Festival.

There will also be a book sale sponsored by the Prescott-Nevada County Library. Merchants in the downtown area are being encouraged to decorate windows and office fronts for the event. Windows will be judged on fall/Halloween decorations.

Additional events include pony rides, a guessing game, pumpkin painting, caramel apples and a pet contest.

According to information from the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, a community-wide garage sale is also being promoted in conjunction with the festival events. For more information or to reserve a free booth space, call the chamber at 887-2101.
