Wolves howl at homecoming

Facing an unusual offense didnt slow Prescott down much as the Wolves posted a 60-12 homecoming win over the Fouke Panthers Friday night.

Prescott, 4-1, racked up 483 yards in total offense, with 377 coming on the ground, while the tenacious Wolf defense stymied Fouke most of the game.

However, the Panthers opened the game scoring on their first two possessions to go up 12-0 because of the borrowed west coast offense. Foukes offense lined up with the center on the line, the quarterback in shotgun formation and the rest of the squad spread sideline to sideline. When the quarterback began barking signals, the line would form in a more normal fashion.

Prescotts coaches, though, spent most of the game shouting which Panther receivers were eligible and which werent because of the setup.

Fouke won the toss, started on the 20 after the kick, and marched 80 yards in 10 plays to go up 6-0 with 8:44 showing. The point after attempt didnt clear the line of scrimmage.

Prescott held the ball nine plays before turning it over on downs with 5:36 to go. Fouke took over at the Wolf 39.

An inadvertent whistle erased a Prescott pick on first down. Fouke took advantage of this opportunity to drive the distance, scoring on a 23-yard pass from Kade Benson to Hunter Barker. Again the point after try was low and blocked, but Fouke was up 12-0 with 2:44 left in the first.

That was all she wrote for the Panther offense as the Wolves opened up full throttle.

Prescott started at its 40 and three plays later scored when Termaine Henderson went in from 10 yards out. The PAT was no good, but the Wolves only trailed 12-6 with 1:41 left.

Following a kick to the end zone, Fouke took over on the 20, but was nailed with a holding penalty moving the Panthers to the 10. Benson was sacked at the one on first down, and tried for a quick kick on second. The punt was blocked, but recovered by Fouke in the end zone. This cut the lead to 12-8 and gave the ball back to Prescott.

The kick was returned to the Fouke 23 with Collier carrying twice for the score. The PAT made it 15-12 and Prescott never looked back.

The Wolves added three more touchdowns in the second quarter, with the longest drive being 11 plays. The shortest was one snap, a 30-yard scoring pass from T. Henderson to B.J. Haynie.

Prescott opened the second half by returning the kick for a touchdown, only to have it called back on a holding penalty. It didnt matter, because James Colbert broke free for six on the first play from scrimmage to make it 39-12. The PAT was blocked.

The Wolves added a total of 20 points in the third quarter, ending the frame with a 53-12 lead. The mercy rule went into effect with 3:01 left in the period.

The final score came on a 32-yard scamper by Colbert with 9:21 left in the game, with the PAT making it 60-12.

Prescott will be on the road this week as the Wolves head to Lafayette County for a date with the Cougars. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
