Wolves howl to double victoryBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune To say that the Prescott Curley Wolves and Prescott Curley Cubs won is a gross understatement. The fact is, the Wolves put in an appearance on the Gurdon Go- Devils home turf and simply refused to allow the Devils to score a single touchdown. The final score was 44-0. The game started as a shoving match with both teams making the push to within a few yards of a touchdown but the defense refusing to allow the score. Then the Wolves shoved the Devils back over the Wolf goal line and took a two-point lead. There followed a series of plays that included turnovers on both sides with the Wolves forcing a turnover at the Devils own 2-yard line. With 4:34 left in the first quarter, the Wolves made the first touchdown and took the score to 8-0. Halfway through the second quarter, the Devils gave up the ball to the Wolves but immediately took it back on a fumble. The mistake wasnt overly costly because the Wolves quickly intercepted. With seconds left in the first half, the Wolves scored again, a trend that would send the Wolves to a clear victory early in the second half when the touchdowns were plentiful and unanswered. The Wolves remained on the Devils 50-yard line long enough to receive the traveling trophy sponsored by the Gurdon Times and Nevada County Picayune. Prescott head coach Greg Smith said the upcoming game against Fouke is not one of the teams traditional rivals, but the teams coach is Smiths brother, meaning theres some serious rivalry anyway.
