Wolves send Bobcats home with a whimperSpecial to the Picayune: By Garren Smith and Terry SimmonsPublished Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune The Prescott Curley Wolves took their second victory of the season in a 49-28 win against the Hope Bobcats on Sept. 19. The Prescott Curley Wolves will enter the 3A-7 conference season 2-1. In the first quarter of action, the Bobcats would receive the kickoff. A series of runs and a penalty against the Bobcats up first leading 6-0. The extra point was good, and the Bobcats struck first against Prescott 7-0 with 7:33 left to play in the first quarter of action. Prescott would receive the kickoff from Hope. Curley Wolf KeAundrae Balance received the kick off for Prescott. Senior quarterback Termaine Henderson started off the Curley Wolves with a run for a first down. Senior running back DeMarcus Collier carried the ball four times with a first down for Prescott at the 6:40 mark in the first quarter. Collier would once again carry the ball and scored a touchdown with 6:03 left to play in the first quarter. The Curley Wolves and Bobcats are tied at 7-7. Richards for the Bobcats received the kickoff and ran to the 20 yard line. Harris took the snap from Bradley at quarterback for a first down. Holyfield would pick up a yard on his carrier up the middle. After the play, Prescott was called offsides and Hope had a automatic first down with 4:14 left to play in the first. Bradley for the Bobcats ran for three yard gain, but then threw pass and was intercepted by Prescott with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter. The Curley Wolves took back over position of the ball. Collier for the Curley Wolves carried the ball for a nine yard gain, then a first down, which resulted for another touchdown. Collier scored his second touchdown of the night. The Curley Wolves extra point was good, and Hope trailed 14-7. Hope would now receive the kickoff and run up to the 25 yard line. Harris would take the snap for the Bobcats and gain seven yards with 1:21 left in the quarter. The Bobcats were forced to a fourth down and punted to Prescott. The Curley Wolves took over and Collier would gain another first down to end the first quarter. The Bobcats trailed Prescott 14-7. In the second quarter of action, the Bobcats and the Curley Wolves both made big plays. Prescott would score another touchdown with 11:10 left to play in the first half. Prescott would increase their lead to 21-7. The Bobcats would answer right back with a touchdown pass caught from Levatus Evans. The extra point from the Bobcats was good, and Hope trailed Prescott 21-14. The Curley Wolves not rest, and Collier scored another touchdown with 6:33 left to play in the first half. The Curley Wolves now led Hope 28-14. The Bobcats tried to answer back, but went three and out on downs. The Curley Wolves would score again before the half end with B.J. Haynie catching a pass. At halftime, the Curley Wolves led the Bobcats 35-14. Heading into the third quarter, the Curley Wolves recieved. Collier for the Curley Wolves would open up the quarter with a touchdown at the 10:19 mark. The extra point was good and the Curley Wolves lead grew bigger on top 42-14. The Bobcats would continue to struggle against the Curley Wolves and fumbled on their possession. Prescott recovered the ball and once again scored a touchdown on the Bobcats. Jacob Clark was credited the touchdown and Prescott led Hope 49-14. The Bobcats would get a spark from Richards who returned a kickoff for a 20 yard gain. The Bobcats fumbled the ball and Prescott regained control with 8:13 left to play in the third quarter. Richards now for the Bobcats would catch a interception against Prescott in the endzone for a touch back. Quashun Vickers for the Bobcats would take the snap through the Prescott defense. Bradley would look to throw, but the pass was intercepted by Prescott. This would end the quarter, and the Curley Wolves led the Bobcats 49-14. To start the fourth quarter, the Curley Wolves lead was too big for the Bobcats to overcome. Richards would spark for the Bobcats with a 89 yard punt kick return for a touchdown at the 9:12 mark. The Bobcats still trailed Prescott 49-21. For the Curley Wolves, Collier had four touchdowns, with 16 carries for 144 yards and Henderson threw two touchdown passes. The Wolves had 17 first downs, 385 yards of total offense, and ended with a 49-28 victory. The Curley Wolves will play Friday at Gurdon High School against another of the teams traditional rivals, the Go-Devils.
