Farris scores on AP, recognized as outstandingPublished Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the Gurdon TimesBritney Farris has been recognized as an outstanding student of Gurdon High School for being the first to make a qualifying score on an Advanced Placement Exam. Gurdon High School began offering AP English in Literature in 2003, AP US History in 2004, and AP Biology in 2005. AP History Instructor Misty Calley said, "these courses are rigorous and are taught at the college level. Farris enrolled in AP US History in 2007-2008 as a junior. The course has a level of difficulty, and requires extensive reading and writing responses. Being dedicated and working very hard has paid off, as Farris will receive credit hours for US History toward the college she will attend this fall. Farris is also the first student to score Advanced on the End of Course Literacy Exam for the 11th grade, taught by Rhea Ruggles. Calley said, "any student dedicated enough to attempt these courses should be commended." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
