Emma Downs

Mrs. Emma Jean McBay Downs, 76, of Hope, died Sat., August 23, 2008, in a Texarkana Hospital.

She was born in Hope, on June 27, 1932, to Lawrence Jordan McBay and Eva Viola Nations McBay. She was a homemaker, mother and paper carrier for the Hope Star and Texarkana Gazette for 19 years. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Hope. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her step-mother, Dorothy Evelyn Gifford McBay; and by two sisters, Martha Burns and Frances Tinsley.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Lee Downs of Hope; two sons, Hershal Lee Downs Jr. and Tammy of Texarkana and Terry Downs and Angie of Spring Hill; one daughter, Carol Daugherty and Dale of Hope; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, with Revs. Mark Faulkner and Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Hope. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.

The family received friends Monday, Aug. 25, from 6-8 p.m., at Brazzel/ Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
