Warren Albert Porter, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at the Touchmark Retirement Community in Edmond, Okla., after three courageous battles with lung cancer.

Warren Porter was born on February 15, 1925, in Prescott, to Watson Albert Porter and Bessie Buchanan Porter. During his school years, due to his fathers early death, Warren and his twin brother, the late Watson Gilbert Porter worked alongside their mother and older sister, Verna Marie Porter Stutsman, to run a small dairy. Upon graduation from high school Warren served in WWII in the 92nd Bomber group of the Eighth Air Force as a radar mechanic in England. Warren married his lifelong companion of 58 years Dorothy Mae Allen on June 2, 1950. Warren worked as an electrician for Monsanto Chemical Plant, Lyon Oil Refinery and Reynolds Aluminum and Steel. He also owned his own electrical business. He lived most of his adult life in El Dorado and Gurdon. In Oct. 1999, he and his wife moved to The Woodlands, Texas where he made lifelong friends at Woodlands Parkway Baptist Church or Stone Bridge. In October 2003, they moved to Edmond, Okla. to be closer to his daughter Nancy Gerding and her family. Warren was a Mason, and an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, the grape ape and most importantly spending time with his children and grandchildren. Warren faithfully served as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons at Immanuel Baptist Church, El Dorado and Beech Street Baptist Church in Gurdon. Warren also taught first and second grade Sunday school for over 30 years at those churches. He is especially remembered for his positive attitude, sense of humor, and gentle servant spirit.
