Gladys Meme MerrellPublished Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in the Nevada County PicayuneMrs. Gladys Mae Meme Merrell, 98, of Fairbanks, Alaska, formerly of Emmet, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. She was born on June 2, 1910, in Hope, to Dave and Jessie Davis Porter. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jepther Merrell; one daughter, Nora Doris Merrell Eller; one brother, Kenneth Porter and one grandson, Larry Lynn. Her survivors include three sisters, Jessie Stine of Hamburg, Evelyn Roberts of Slidell, La. And Carla Ruth Viedra of Texas; four grandchildren, Edith Shankles and Linda Martin, both of Fairbanks, Alaska, Nina Baker of Emmet and Tommy Lynn of Skiatook, Okla. and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope, with Rev. Eric Barbaree officiating. The burial was in Ayers Cemetery in Hope. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope. The family received friends Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 6-8 p.m., at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
