The Nevada County Fair is kicking off Sept. 6-13. The theme

for this years event is Old Time Country Fair.

Major happenings during the fair include the parade, livestock

show, rodeo and pageants.

Parade will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, beginning at 6 p.m. in

downtown Prescott. Fair pageant contestants, groups, clubs,

churches, businesses and individuals are invited to participate with

an array of options. Floats, mini-floats, bicycles, cars and horses

are among the possibilities. Horses must have proof of current

Coggins testing in order to participate. Prizes are given in several

categories. For more information about the parade, pick up a county

fair book at local banks, the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber

or the Nevada County Extension Office, or call the chamber.

The livestock show is set for Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

at the livestock arena. The winners will then be eligible to display

their ribbons during the livestock premium sale set for Thursday,

Sept. 11, at 6:30. A meal for potential premium buyers will be held

at 5:30 p.m.

Also on Thursday, the pageant for girls ages to 7 years will be

held in the Potlatch Building on the fairgrounds. Categories are

ages 0-2 in the Baby Miss, 2-3 in the Tiny Miss, 4-5 in the Little

Miss and 6-7 in the Petite Miss. The pageant will pick up again on

Saturday at 6 p.m. for girls ages 8-21. Categories are 8-10 Young

Miss, 11-12 Junior Miss, 12-14 Teen Miss and 16-21 Fair Queen.

Those chosen will serve the county at official functions, including

parades and community coffees, for the coming year.

Educational booths, flowers, vegetables, canned goods, art

exhibits and crafts will be on hand and all county residents are welcome

to participate.

There is no carnival planned for the fair and local churches,

clubs, businesses and organizations are encouraged to set up

booths and games. For example, the Prescott-Nevada County

Chamber of Commerce plans to have a sack race. According to

Chamber Director Brandy Jones, the grand prize will be a television.

For information about any of the fair events, contact the chamber

at 887-2101 or the extension office at 887-2818.
