John (Pop) Basham Jr.

John F. (Pop) Basham Jr., 81, of Taylor, died Aug. 13, 2008, in Shreveport.

John was born May 29, 1927, in Watson, Oklahoma. He was co-owner and Vice President of B&S Hardwood, Inc. in Gibsland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann Basham; two brothers, Raymond Basham and Parmer Basham; one sister, Pauline Johnson and step-mother, Miriam Basham.

He is survived by wife of sixty years, Marie Basham of Taylor; son, Mike Basham and wife, Donna of Taylor; daughter, Diann Gosdin of Shreveport; sisters, Anna Lou Milam of Prescott and Ruth Hankins and husband, Ronnie of Hope; brother, Robert Lee Basham and wife, Pat of Taylor; sister-in-law, Willie Basham of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Ryan Gosdin and wife, Dawn of Bossier City, Phoebe Marie Purvis and husband, Chris of Taylor, Jason Basham and wife, Haley of Arcadia, Patrick Franklin Gosdin of Shreveport and Kevin Basham of Simsboro and numerous nieces and nephews. His four great-grandchildren were the light of his life, Peyton Marie and Logan Franklin Gosdin, Gracie Ann Purvis and Taylor Neal Basham.

The funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Taylor Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Eppinette officiated. Interment was at Woodard cemetery. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Ryan Gosdin, Jason Basham, Patrick Gosdin and Kevin Basham; nephew, Ronnie Basham and grandson-in-law, Chris Purvis. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Gibsland Lions Club.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1942 .
