Log A Load Helps Kids

Published Wednesday, March 3, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Arkansas' logging and forestry communities have a heart for kids and will demonstrate their commitment by raising $350,000 for Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) through the seventh annual Log A Load For Kids campaign.

"Since 1993, this program has raised more than $750,000 for the hospital," said state Log A Load coordinator Anna Swaim. "Log A Load has been and will continue to be successful thanks to the dedicated people who care so much about Arkansas' forests and its children."

The money raised in this statewide campaign will support a newly created Log A Load For Kids endowed chair of cardiovascular surgery at ACH. Interest from this endowment will support research, equipment and other needs in this important area of pediatric medicine. Also, ACH will use this endowed chair to continue the hospital's legacy of cardiovascular surgical talent.

"Our endowed chair program is reserved for organizations and individuals that contribute more than $1 million," according to ACH president and CEO Dr. Jonathan Bates. "The Log A Load endowed chair of cardiovascular surgery will have a significant impact on the hospital's ability to help our most critically ill patients."

Log A Load For Kids is a national fund-raising program sponsored in Arkansas by the Arkansas Forestry Association and Arkansas Timber Producers Association. In 1998, the national Log A Load For Kids contribution was $2.4 million. Arkansas' campaign accounted for $350,000 of that total.
