Presidential Straw Poll, including speeches by Gov. Mike Huckabee and U.S. Rep. Jay Dickey will be held Saturday, March 13, at Evans Student Center at OBU. The event is sponsored by the Clark County Republican Committee. A reception will be at 6:00 p.m with dinner at 7:00 p.m. Free childcare is offered. The Henderson State University Alumni Club in Gurdon will host a dinner on March 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church fellowship hall. Entertainment will be provided by the HSU Music Department. Proceeds from the dinner will buy a brick for the walk at the new science building. Sunday school will be held at 10:00 a.m., worship service at 11:00 a.m., potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. and singing at 1:30 p.m. The third annual gospel singers reunion will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church at Whelen Springs on Saturday, March 6, at 6:00 p.m. Featured singers are Billy Freeman and the Sonliners, Divine Appointment, Messengers, Messengers of Hope and Royal Descendants. Divine Appointment will be performing at Beech Street Baptist Church Sunday, March 7, at 6:00 p.m. There will be a meeting of the South Fork Cemetery Association Sunday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the South Fork Church. Ronnie and Deonna Land are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kenzie Addison Land on Wednesday, February 24, 1999, at 9:59 a.m. Kenzie measured 183/4 inches long and weighted four pounds, 143/4 ounces. Nick and Carla Matthews of Donaldson are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Krista Nicole Matthews, born Wednesday, February 24, 1999. She weighed six pounds, 121/2 ounces and measured 20 inches long. She was welcomed home by a sister, Paige Matthews. Grandparents are Richard and Charlotte Matthews of Donaldson, Carl and Linda McMichael of Gurdon and Jorge and Karen Garcia of Amarillo. The city of Gurdon Animal Control Department wants to remind you that it often has unclaimed dogs that would make wonderful pets. People are encouraged to adopt these animals and give them a good home. Call City Hall at 353-2514 or one can go by to look through pictures of available dogs for adoption. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.
