CCCU hopeful to offer counseling for teens, senior citizensJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in the Gurdon Times An up-and-coming project will hopefully serve as an activity center for community youth, according to C.J. Pigg, president of Clark County Citizens United. Pigg and inmates from Clark County Jail began work on the old senior citizen's center located at 900 N 3rd St. Wednesday, June 25. The inmates performed yard work in order to get the building ready for exterior and interior remodeling. The project, Pigg said, will be intended to set up programs for youth and senior citizens to interact and learn certain activities, including sewing and recycling old clothes. Counseling programs will be set up, Pigg said, for teenagers dealing with drug problems, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Also in the works for the new center is a chain link fence, a new roof and a playground. "We're going to make it as safe as we can make it," Pigg said. CCCU is a non-profit organization, and Pigg said he would like the public to be involved in the project as well as keeping the center running and active. "We need as much help as we can get," he said. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
