Tornado To Hit PrescottPublished Wednesday, September 22, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneA mock disaster drill will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, in Prescott. The purpose of this drill is to see how effective the emergency response teams in the county are and how quickly they can be ready should a real emergency occur. In addition, this drill is being done under a mandate from the Arkansas Office of Emergency Services. The plan is for a "tornado" to hit Prescott Saturday morning. All emergency personnel in Prescott, Nevada County and surrounding areas will be involved. Prescott's schools have been designated as disaster shelters, as has the Nevada County courthouse and major churches. The "twister" will take a path across the northwest part of Prescott and will affect all utilities and services. Ham radio operators will be involved, giving information as it becomes available. However, volunteer "victims" are needed for the emergency crews to help. Anyone wanting to be a "victim" should go to the parking lot of the defunct Nevada County Hospital by 10 a.m. Saturday.
