Go-Devils voted second in 3A for '08 in Hooten'sPublished Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in the Gurdon TimesThe Gurdon Go-Devils are voted by 7-3A conference coaches to finish second in the conference as stated in this years Hootens Arkansas Football magazine. The Prescott Curly Wolves are picked to win the conference, and the Rison Wildcats are picked for third place. Senior quarterback Ethan Jones will enter the season as the starter. He is also a skilled punter, according to Go-Devil Coach John Pace. He has a strong arm, and he could punt at the next level, Pace told Hootens. Jones backup will be sophomore Jared Shaver. Other offensive notables for the Go-Devils include senior running back OBryan Bell, sophomore Keon Holliman, sophomore fullback Micah Henderson, junior receiver Drew Griffin, sophomore receiver Darius Bailey, senior receiver Caleb Jones, senior tight end Princeton McPeak, senior guard/tackle Pierce Lowery, senior lineman Cody Prault, junior lineman Bobby Purifoy, senior lineman Donte Stephens, junior lineman Tom Ross White and junior linemen Adam Clark, Jarod Corbit, Kody Dickerson and Hosea Walker. The Go-Devils finished the 2007 season with a 9-2 record, putting them at first place in the conference. Their strengths include established skill players and a kicking game, and their only weakness is that nine two-way starters graduated, according to the magazine. The 432-page book, in all color, is in its 16th year of publication and offers the most comprehensive preseason football coverage in Arkansas. In addition to extensive high school coverage, the publication offers an in-depth preview of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas State and every state college are previewed as well as all 119 Division I college teams in America. The Razorbacks are picked to finish sixth in the SEC Western Division and are ranked No. 51 nationally. ASU is ranked No. 101. The book also features coaches polls for each high school conference, a national college poll and high school super teams. Arkansas Razorback coach Bobby Petrino is featured inside the cover, along with freshmen Joe Adams, DeAnthony Curtis and Tyler Wilson. Hootens high school favorites to win all in 2008 are Fort Smith Southside in Class 7A, Lake Hamilton in Class 6A, Pulaski Academy in Class 5A, Nashville in Class 4A, Prescott in Class 3A and Bearden in Class 2A. Hootens Arkansas Football has complete fall schedules for all high school and college teams.
