Martha HarwellPublished Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in the Nevada County PicayuneMartha Harwell, 77, of Gurdon, died May 30, 2008, in Beford, Texas. He was born Dec. 16, 1930 in Gurdon, to Wayne and Zela Taylor. He was retired from International Paper Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Golden Age Club, and the Gurdon and Clark County Historical Preservation Society. He was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joseph Burns (Jay) Harwell Jr. His survivors include one brother, Wayne Taylor of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Joyce Taylor of Little Rock; two sons, Joseph Burns (Jay) Harwell III of Gurdon and Matt Harwell of Falcon; one daughter, Robin Fleming of Keller, Texas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The service was Tuesday, June 3, at 2 p.m., at the Pharr Funeral Home Chapel in Gurdon. Interment was at the Rosehedge Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, June 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pharr Funeral Home in Gurdon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zela Taylor Scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
