Martha HarwellPublished Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in the Gurdon TimesMartha Harwell, aged 77, of Gurdon, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, in Bedford, Texas. Martha was born on Dec. 16, 1930, in Gurdon, the daughter of Wayne and Zela Taylor. She worked at International Paper, where she retired. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Golden Age Club and the Gurdon and Clark County Historical Preservation Society. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph Burns Jay Harwell Jr. She is survived by one brother, Wayne Taylor of Dallas; one sister, Joyce Taylor of Little Rock; two sons, Joseph Burns (Jay) Harwell III of Gurdon, and Matt Harwell of Falcon; one daughter, Robin Fleming of Keller, Texas; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the Pharr Funeral Home Chapel in Gurdon, with interment following at Rosehedge Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the Pharr Funeral Home in Gurdon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zela Taylor Scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
