Woman tries to steal 'buggy full' of groceriesJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in the Gurdon Times A Gurdon woman was arrested after trying to leave Rehkopfs Family Food Store with $116 worth of groceries Saturday, May 17, at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to a police report filed at the Gurdon Municipal Building. The arrested suspect was Angela D. Bell, 48, of 410 E. Miller St., who reportedly attempted to take 35 items from the store. The report indicates that the stores manager called the Gurdon Police Department at 9:45 a.m. in regards to the shoplifting incident. GPD officer Darrin Cooper arrived on the scene and met the manager, who stated that a black female wearing a yellow jersey had tried to leave the store with a buggy full of groceries. Before the woman could leave the parking lot, the manager reportedly went outside and retrieved the groceries from her. According to the report, the manager told police that the suspect was very intoxicated and that she went south on 5th Street. The manager made a receipt of the stolen items for evidence. Officer Cooper patrolled the area to locate Bell when he witnessed her run into her mothers residence as she saw the police car driving down the street. Cooper knocked on the door and requested to speak with Bell. Her mother let him in and advised that she was in the back part of the home. Upon speaking with Bell, Cooper noticed that she was intoxicated. When he advised her that she was under arrest for shoplifting, she became very combative and refused to go with him, according to the report. Bell was placed under arrest, transported to GPD and cited for shoplifting and resisting arrest. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
