Two Prescott City Council races are to be decided during the runoff elections, set for June 10.

In Ward 3, Position 2, incumbent Jerry Wilson got 44 percent of the vote while challenger Dennis Pruitt got 41 percent. A third candidate for that position, Art Menard, took 87 votes sufficient to deny either Wilson or Pruitt a clear majority. Both men are now

returning to the campaign trail.

In Ward 2, Position 2, Gary Lowdermilk took more votes than either of his challengers, but not enough to claim a majority.

Lowdermilk, with 248 votes, now faces Elaine Williams who got 199 votes during the primary. The third candidate for that office, Ron Murphy, got a quarter of the votes with a total of 148.

Williams is not a new candidate for the council. She served in another ward until about three months ago when she resigned due to a move. At the time of that resignation she announced her intention to seek another seat in her new ward. Murphy has thrown his

support behind Williams.

The two races will be among those settled in the June 10 runoff election. Voters in the Prescott city limits will vote at their normal polling places though only paper ballots will be offered in this election.

In another race in the city, incumbent Robert Loe beat out challenger Adam Guthrie Jr, 143-112. Remaining board positions were unchallenged during the primary.

The seat vacated by Williams remains officially unfilled though Jorge Nasser was the only candidate to run for that position.

Candidates elected during the primary will not take office until Jan. 1. Though Nasser has been the only applicant expressing interest in that seat, Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor has declined to install him as a new member, citing his intention to wait until after the primary election to do so.
