Grand Opening Set For March 10BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 3, 1999 in the Gurdon Times Thomason's Big Star is preparing grand opening ceremonies to announce its arrival into Gurdon. Thomason's owned by Terry Thomason, was formerly the town's Piggly Wiggly grocery store, until it was purchased around the first of the year by Thomason. Grand opening festivities will be held Wednesday, March 10, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 9 a.m. The ribbon cutting kicks the celebration off, as a plethora of savings will be offered to the customers. These include several items of buy one, get one free. This isn't all, either. Several prizes will be given away throughout the morning, with demonstrations planned with many products. The prizes to be given away includes a Murray riding lawnmower, a canoe, an upright freezer and microwave oven, along with many others. Cake and coffee will be served to the patrons during the grand opening. For the first 100 customers through the door after the ribbon cutting ceremony is held, a bright, shiny Susan B. Anthony silver dollar awaits them on the other side. As an incentive for Gurdon residents to keep coming to Big Star, Thomason has other festivities planned throughout the month. On March 12-13, Twinkie the Kid, the Tony's pizza man and the Big Star Clown will make their appearance in town. There will also be plenty of savings for the customers. Saturday, March 20, will see a live remote with KIX radio, along with performances by the Gurdon High School jazz band. However, from Thursday, March 18, until Saturday, March 20, there will be early-bird savings available. On March 18, the first 100 through the door will receive a free can of frozen orange juice. Friday's giveaway to the first 100 is a 12 ounce package of bacon. Saturday, it will be a free dozen eggs to the initial 100 in the store. Big Star, Thomason said, will be going with the price breaker program as well. Under this program, customers are given a card, which is, in turn, stamped for each $5 spent at the store. When the card is fully stamped, price breaker items can be purchased at special low prices. "We want to provide good savings to the customers while having fun at the same time," Thomason said. "We want people to enjoy shopping here." Big Star will also be introducing Country Butcher meats to the customers in Gurdon. This means customers can have meat specially cut to their desire, instead of just having to make selections based on pre-packaged meats. The pre-packaged meats will still be available for those who want them. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
