John L. ProthroPublished Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Gurdon TimesJohn L. Prothro, Jr., 65, of Pell City, Ala., and formally of Gurdon, left this life on May 13, 2008. Johnny was born in 1943 to John and Frances Prothro in El Dorado and spent his younger years in Gurdon. Johnny graduated from Gurdon High School in 1961, and from Henderson State Teachers College in 1965. He directed bands in both Arkansas and Texas and participated as an active member and past president of the Four States Bandmasters Association. Johnny held a masters degree in music from Henderson State University and numerous Technical Degrees from nursing to preaching. He is survived by hundreds of friends and his brother and sister, Lennie Prothro and Beth Williams. Johnny has five nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Frances Prothro. The family held a private memorial service.
