City Council meeting postponedJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Gurdon Times Due to a conflict in event scheduling and a lack of items on the councils agenda, city officials decided to postpone the City Council meeting until a later date. The decision was made Thursday, May 15, to move the normal meeting date Monday, May 19 until a later time in the month. City Mayor Clayton Franklin said the decision was made in order for council members to attend an in-depth presentation, which given by Paul Harvel, the new CEO of the Arkadelphia Regional Economic Development Alliance. The time of the presentation coincided with the time of the normal time of council meetings. We asked council members to attend in lieu of the meeting here, Franklin said. Our county and the rest of us needed to be there. We needed to have a decent representation from Gurdon. One issue of the Economic Development Corp. of Clark County is discussing the 1/2-cent economic tax. We want to be sure that this tax is a county effort and not just a city effort, Franklin said. I think we should be there to look out for our interest. The City Council meeting, which is normally held on the third Monday of each month, is usually postponed in cases where the day falls on a holiday. The meeting will not be held next Monday, May 26, since that day is Memorial Day. But Franklin said the meeting will be held some time this month. One item on the agenda which will be discussed is a set of ordinances on pit bulls. We have looked at some pit bull ordinances from other towns that have addressed the problem, Franklin said. Were looking at ordinances in Camden and Arkadelphia, and will have something for the Council to think about. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
