Forest Festival finds friends on MySpace

With the Forest Festival around the bend, coordinators of the festival are looking for input from citizens of Gurdon to decide what musical act to bring.

Festival coordinators have also created a MySpace page to offer a forum for suggestions and discussion. So far, almost 200 people have added the forest festival onto their list of friends. The Web site is www.myspace.com/gurdonforestfestival. Coordinators are asking for people to join in on the topic.

The budget for a musical act allows $5,000 to pay the musician or group. Another topic of discussion is the time set for the concert. Tambra Childres, volunteer and coordinator, said that, since the festival is in autumn, the weather normally turns cooler after sunset, putting a damper on the crowd. It would be better, she said, if the concert were to start earlier in the day to avoid the cooler weather.

Another topic of discussion is beginning a sanctioned barbecue contest much like the annual chili cook off for locals to vie for the best recipe. Childres said the contest definitely would not replace the chili cook off.

Also, festival coordinators are looking for volunteers to help with the festival because it is expected to attract more festival goers.

For more information regarding the MySpace page or volunteering, contact Childres at 353-2514.
