Texan makes drunken scene in Gurdon, flees from policeJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in the Gurdon Times A Texas man made a scene in Gurdon last Saturday, April 26, and found himself behind bars after urinating in the corner of a local Laundromat and attempting to flee from police, according to a police record filed at the Gurdon Police Department. The report indicates that GPD received a call from a mobile phone around 9:30 p.m. regarding a white man in a white Ford F-250 who had rear-ended a vehicle and tried to drive away from the scene. The victims, two women from Arkadelphia, called police soon after the man hit their vehicle on South Street. The man reportedly cursed at the women before taking off. But the women followed him as they called police to make sure he did not escape. The suspect, 29-year-old Jimmy Leon Etue, of Center, Texas, then reportedly stopped at a Laundromat on Sixth Street, where witnesses said he proceeded to urinate in a corner of the building before heading back to his vehicle. That was where GPD Officer Jimmy Edwards confronted him, according to the report. Edwards told the man to stop so he could talk to him, but Etue refused and started to drive off in his truck. As he tried to drive away from the Laundromat, GPD Officer Gary Marshall put (his) blue lights on him, but the man got back on the road with Marshall following him with his spotlight on (Etues) mirror. The man reportedly drove three blocks before he turned onto Ninth Street, where he finally parked the vehicle and held his keys in his left hand out of the drivers window. The report indicates that Etue had an open bottle of beer in his vehicle and smelled of alcohol. Marshall then handcuffed him and transported him to Clark County Sheriffs Office where he was charged with fleeing an officer, driving while intoxicated, drinking in public, driving with a suspended license, not having insurance and refusing to take a breath test. According to the report, the victims had a scratch on their rear bumper, and Etue had a scratch on his front bumper. Marshall said the man lived in Gurdon years ago and that he was probably back in town to visit family. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
