Job fair plannedBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune A job fair planned for dislocated workers of the Prescott Potlatch facility will be open to the community, according to Nevada County Economic Development Director Mary Godwin. The job fair and an accompanying event led by the Governors Dislocated Worker Task Force has been set for May 7. The task force portion of the meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Potlatch Building on the Nevada County Fairgrounds. This event will include five specific sessions designed to help workers deal with an array of topics. Employment training, insurance, unemployment benefits and finances are on that list. The job fair itself will be from 1- 4 p.m., also in the Potlatch building. Godwin said several industries in the area have agreed to attend. Each will be recruiting for positions within their companies. Those companies are from Hope, Nashville, DeQueen, Camden, Gurdon and Arkadelphia. Our focus is to get as many of the industries in the surrounding areas as possible, Godwin said. She said only companies within convenient driving distance were invited. Godwin said insurance companies and representatives from local banks would also be on hand to offer advice and information on financial planning. A representative of the Small Business Administration will also be available for anyone considering starting a business of their own. While many of the former employees of Potlatch are looking for work, some are also making plans seek additional training. Information on both resume writing and schools will be available as part of the job fair. For details, call Godwin at 887-2101. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
