Notes from GPSRita Roe, GPS PrincipalPublished Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in the Gurdon Times We are so fortunate to be able to provide an Academic Excellence Summer Camp for our students during the month of July. This program is designed to give students who want to excel the benefit from small group instruction. This summer program is designed to boost those students who are already doing well, but want to perform even better in literacy or math. Schools that have provided this service have said that their parents are very appreciative to have their students selected to participate in the program. Gurdon Primary staff wants to provide our students with the opportunity to be Top in the State because research has proven the success rate in higher grades is often directly related to how proficient a student is in their lower primary grades. Therefore, this program is not designed to prevent failure, but to boost a childs level of success in future grades. We will only allow 10 students per grade level, so space is very limited. We hope that any child who receives acceptance to attend will take advantage of this opportunity. This camp is made possible through grants from AR Reading First and 21st Century.
