Three honored for leadership: Williams 'citizen'; Thomas 'educator', Livingston 'theologian'By Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune Jeffery Williams, Fred Thomas and Elder Vernon Livingston were among those recognized during the annual Ila Upchurch Corporation Banquet, held Saturday, April 19. Williams was named Citizen of the Year and the award was presented by Charlotte Coleman. Coleman talked of Williams church involvement, including his willingness to take on a primary group each Sunday morning. She said that Williams volunteer activities and tendency to pitch in where needed prompted the award. Hes always there to lend a helping hand, Coleman said as she introduced Williams. Livingstons award was presented by Rev. Ivory Curry. Livingston, chaplain of the Nevada County Jail, is active across the region in prison ministries. Curry said that Livingston is also the person who visits shut-ins and others in need. Thomas was introduced by former teacher Joyce Gibson who said Thomas has spent 37 years in the Prescott School District. Gibson said Thomas emphasized the need for physical fitness as a part of overall learning. And the crowd indicated knowledge of Thomass teaching style when Gibson said that all this students remember his famous phrase, Girls on the left, boys on the right.
