City clean-up continues

The annual Gurdon city clean-up will continue this year April 28-May 5. This will be an opportunity for citizens of Gurdon to get rid of undesirable materials lying around on their property.

As usual, city officials have put restrictions on what can be picked up. This list includes bagged garbage, canned food, canned paint or large or cumbersome tree limbs.

Once the material is taken to the curb, citizens are to call Gurdon City Hall at 353-2514 for a work order to be written. Each household is limited to one pick-up per year; so city officials urge that people get all of their undesirables on the curb before calling.

This is a service that has been popular with Gurdon citizens since its beginning, said Tambra Childres, city recorder and treasurer.

This is one of the services the city offers every year that everyone takes advantage of, Childres said. Its one our most popular services.

Gas prices will take its toll on the citys budget, since city workers will make numerous trips to the landfill, which is located in Joan.

But gas prices will not get in the way of making the city a cleaner place, Childres said.

It helps the city and the county to look better, she said, and illegal dumping is such a problem.
