A Gurdon man being held at the Clark County Jail will face additional felony charges if convicted of assaulting a Clark County jailer.

Broderick Jovan Cooper, 29, of 406 E. Jones St., who was arrested in November for felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and intent to deliver crack cocaine, assaulted a Clark County jailer March 17, according to court documents filed at the Clark County Courthouse.

The records indicate that the jailer, who was working a 12-hour shift, was performing his regular duties when he heard an alarm for Coopers cell door at approximately 6:15 a.m.

The jailer went to the cell block upon hearing the alarm, which is designed for inmates to activate if they need assistance from jail personnel.

At the cell door, the jailer encountered Cooper, who was reportedly looking through the bean hole of the door. The jailer asked Cooper what he wanted, to which he responded by reportedly throwing a cup of urine at the jailer and saying, Thats what I wanted.

According to the report, the urine struck the jailer in his face, contaminating his mouth and eyes and also on his chest, soaking through his shirt and contaminating his skin.

The jailer retreated and called for assistance with the matter. Deputy B.J. Johns and Arkadelphia Police Officer arrived and removed Coopers cell mate to different cell to isolate Cooper, according to the report.

Cooper replied by reportedly saying to the officers, Youre so childish. Youre 55 years old you need to act like an adult ...

Police isolated Cooper with no further incidents, according to the report.

If convicted on the charges held against him in November, Cooper may face a prison sentence of 10-40 years and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

In addition, if he is convicted of the assault charges, he may face another prison term of up to six years and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Judges have passed three motions of continuance for Coopers trial on the drug charges, the last continuance being April 2.

His next trial date is scheduled for the week of May 27.
