City applies for SUV grantJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon Municipal Building has sent in a request for a grant for the purchase of a K-9 SUV for transporting Gurdon Sgt. Badge, the drug seeking and search and rescue officer purchased by Gurdon Police Department last year. The $30,000 grant will come from the Arkansas GIF Community Enhancement Fund for city and county enhancement projects. If the grant is approved, $29,000 of the grant will go toward the purchase of the 2008 Ford Expedition, with the installation of sirens and other police equipment. The remainder of the grant will go toward the purchase of a bullet-proof vest for Sgt. Badge. Support letters from Arkansas Senator Percy Malone, State Representative Johnnie Roebuck and Congressman Mike Ross were sent, as well as various local newspaper articles about Sgt. Badge.
