James McGough

Mr. James B. McGough, 85, of Laneburg, left his earthly home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2008, in Texarkana, Texas.

James was born on May 15, 1922, in Laneburg, to Robert Buss and Lillie Rogers. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Prescott, as well as a friend of Laneburg Baptist Church and Laneburg United Pentecostal Church. He was a World War II Veteran and retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in January 1963. He was an Army Veteran also and a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. Upon his return to Arkansas, James was a poultry/cattle/timber producer. He was also the manager of Needmore Properties, LLC. James served as a board member of the Arkansas Soil and Conservation District for many years and was active in several community and county service organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Woodrow McGough; and one sister, Marguerite Henley.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret E. Peggy McGough of Laneburg; two sons, Robert James Bobby McGough and Carolyn of Laneburg and Richard Lee Rick McGough and Debora of Prescott; four grandchildren, Melinda A. McGough of Dallas, Texas, James Robert McGough of Laneburg, Marcus James McGough of Fulton, and Angela M. Poindexter and John David of Mesquite, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends who loved him dearly.

The funeral service was at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at Brazzel/Cornish Chapel of Prescott, with Revs. Jerry G. Westmoreland and David Hampton officiating. Burial was in Laneburg Cemetery in Laneburg. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

The family received friends Wednesday, March 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
