A view from Wendy's World: Operation Bunny Tracks

I hope everyone will indulge me this week if the view from Wendys World is a little on the sentimental side. As it turns out, Operation: Bunny Tracks was a huge success and there are simply no words to express my thanks to the dozens who volunteered to make this a worthwhile and workable effort. Though I always worry about making lists because I fear that someone will be omitted, Im going to give it a try anyway.

Thanks first to the folks who handed me a few dollars or a few items. Those added up to make the project what it was. Next, thanks to all the volunteers who spent time and money making what started out as a little idea into a big project with even bigger rewards.

There are a few who are always willing to provide financial assistance and our community is better for having these people behind us. U.S. Congressman Mike Ross, State Rep. Dr. Johnnie Roebuck, State Sen. Percy Malone, State Rep. Bubba Powers, Mount Ephesus Church and Freddie Hamilton were among those who wrote checks and let us do the shopping.

Peggy DeLaughter and her mom donated enough Avon chapsticks and lotions for virtually every basket. Hollys Health Mart donated a huge box of really good stuff. Firestone turned out in force, both with donations and volunteers. The Prescott Police Department also turned out, handing out baskets to both nursing home residents and to a number of home bound folks.

We couldnt have done it without the nursing home staffers who put up with us as we invaded on the morning of Good Friday, interrupting routines and creating a little chaos for an hour or so.

I heard the heart-touching stories afterward. Theres the man who had already put his goodies in their place in his room less than an hour later, those who were tickled with the visit and didnt want to let their visitors go, and the visitors who wanted to spend more time and pledged to stop in again. I hope they will. I personally have a new friend and Ive been back to visit Ms. Opal a couple of times already.

My list could go on and on, but Im going to stop here and let the photos tell the rest of this story. Again, thanks to everyone who helped.
