Accused rapist held on $1 million bondBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune An Emmet man who was charged with rape on March 17 now faces 36 additional counts of rape and six counts of terroristic threatening. Chad C. Coleman, 28, 102 Nevada 1, Emmet, was initially arrested March 15 after the Nevada County Sheriffs Office received a report that he had engaged in sex with a minor. Coleman originally reported that the sex occurred in Prescott and was consensual, a story the victim agreed was true. The report, filed by Nevada County Sheriffs Deputy Robert Henninger, indicates that Henninger and NC Deputy Gary Hicks responded to the initial call and that Coleman was immediately arrested pending the investigation. After Colemans arrest, he reportedly agreed to answer questions about the incident. According to Henningers report, Coleman didnt deny that hed had sex with the minor but said that he and the victim had planned the event. After Coleman was in custody, the victim was again questioned. Initial statements from the victim regarding the incident in Prescott were vague with the child denying memories of much of the incident. Upon being questioned again, the child said that the abuse had been ongoing since the child was less than 10 years old, and that Coleman had threatened the child into saying that the incidents were consensual. Coleman was in court on March 17 on the initial charge of rape and was held on a $50,000 cash bond. When the additional charges were presented, District Judge Duncan Culpepper ordered Coleman held on a $1 million cash only bond. Coleman remains in jail as of press time.
