Letter to the editorDr. Charles R. LesliePublished Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Gurdon Times One political candidate says to voters, "Look at my experience;" another says to voters,"Look at my judgment," and yet another says to voters, "Look at my patriotism." But here is what I have been waiting for someone to say: "Look at my character." Seems to me that is the foundation to those other things! Emerson once said, "What you are shouts so loudly in my ears I cannot hear what you say." Character is composed of things like integrity, humility, fidelity, temperance, courage, justice, patience, industry, simplicity, modesty, honesty and the Golden Rule. Stephen Covey said, "Honesty is telling the truth - in other words, keeping promises" and may I add, doing what we say we will do. Integrity is the ability to "walk our talk." Heres one way to make your walk match your talk: Love God and His Word with all your being, then love your neighbor as you love yourself with all your doing. Love your country for what you can contribute and not what you can obtain; love your family and friends for what you can give them and not what you can get from them! I am waiting for someone to say "Look at my CHARACTER!" Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
