Gurdon girls to compete in Miss HSU 2008

ARKADELPHIA  Nine students will vie for the title of Miss HSU 2008 on Sunday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Arkansas Hall. The pageant will feature swimsuit, evening gown and talent competitions.

Entertainment will be provided by Miss HSU 2007 Bethany Langston, Josh Green, Sam Sanders, Gina Parker, the HSU Dance Company and Phi Beta Sigma. Students Ivey Kelly of Little Rock and Ashley Slatton of New Boston, Texas, will serve as host and hostess.

The Miss HSU 2008 candidates are: Katie Barbaree of Gurdon; Carolanne Duke of Gurdon; Natalie Crocker of Murfreesboro; Meredith Milum of Nashville; Elisha Allen of Dierks; Tiana Haire of Little Rock; Katie Langum of Rogers; Angela Paladino of Mabelvale; and Jennifer Wright of Nashville.

The first pageant was held in Arkansas Hall on March 24, 1960. Eleven contestants competed for the title of Miss H.S.T.C. when the university was a teachers college. Annette Reeves, a freshman from Malvern, was crowned the first Miss HSU. Sue West of Malvern was first runner-up and Mary Janice Nethery of Arkadelphia was second runner-up.

Admission is free for students, faculty and staff, and $5 for the general public. For more information, call 230-5228.
