Smithson delays retirementJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Gurdon Times During a School Board meeting in January, Gurdon Superintendent Bobby Smithson announced his retirement, effective after the 2007-2008 school year ends. However, he recently changed his mind due to the construction of the Cabe Auditorium. He said the project has been ongoing for eight years, with gathering funds and construction, which was supposed to start last fall. Construction has started on the new building, and should be finished in about a year. I felt obligated to see it through, Smithson said. I wouldnt feel right leaving in the middle of the construction. Smithson said he will retire after it is finished, which will be at the end of the 2009 school year. Applications are still being reviewed for the Superintendents position. About 40 applications have been turned in for the School Board to review. Of those 40, four members of the Gurdon School District system have applied. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
