Shelter seeks sheltersJoe PhelpsPublished Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon Animal Control is accepting shelters for dogs for owners who have dogs living out in the weather. Ty Oppelt, Gurdon animal control officer, said many dog owners around town do not have shelters but need them to comply with a city ordinance. Section IV of the amended Ordinance 98-006 states that it is u nlawful for any person to fail to provide any animal with proper food, drink or protection from the weather. Oppelt said that dog shelters fall under this category, especially in times of bad weather. He said that dogs should access to a shelter to keep them from the elements. If dogs are exposed to negligent conditions such as having an inadequate shelter, owners are subject to a $100 fine for the first offense. For people who once owned a dog but still have a dog house or other pet supplies including food, treats, toys or fencing Oppelt urges them to donate what they no longer use for dogs who do not have them. The first people to donate a shelter were Billy and Sally Tarpley, of Gurdon. I just want to get these dogs out of the weather, Oppelt said. Ill do anything to keep them comfortable. To donate a shelter, contact Oppelt at the Gurdon Municipal Building at 353-2514 or drop it by the shelter on Fallin Road. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
