Letter to the EditorThe Eastern Star Baptist Church familyPublished Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in the Gurdon Times Dear editor, There seems to be an increasing growth of apathy in our society that includes a lack of respect of other peoples property and their surroundings. We are cultivating a seed to grow where we think it is acceptable to throw cans, paper, deer carcasses, mattresses, household goods and trash everywhere! What are we teaching our generation? Shame on you! The residents of Smithton have always taken pride and respect for their community, and would like to keep it that way. They have worked diligently to keep harmony, growth and presentability. This message is written to all the beer drinkers, the fast food eaters, the deer hunters and any other category that you choose to identify yourselves. Take your trash with you and dispose of it properly. If you dont want it, why do you think someone else does? Im sure the residents of the Greenville community feel the same way. The old cliche that says, One mans trash is another mans treasure is a false statement in instances like this. Please help us by taking pride and not littering.
