Chamber sets banquet dateBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune Nothing says spring break like an evening at the beach. While Nevada County might not be exactly ocean-side, residents have the chance to put on the best beach outfit, gather up the beach ball and head to McRae Middle School for the 2008 Chamber Banquet. This years theme is Spring Break with the Chamber. According to Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Director Mary Godwin, the annual banquet is set for March 18 and theres no need to pack a picnic lunch. The menu will be grilled pineapple chicken, wild rice, green beans and wacky cake. While those who attend wont have to deal with the sand, there will be plenty of entertainment. Well have the Prescott Beach Boys, Godwin said. This is the same group that performed at the 2006 chamber banquet, though in keeping with the theme that year, the music was from the 1970s. Its a group of local entertainer, Godwin said. They performed two years ago and people are still talking about it. As always, the event will include an auction and donations are being accepted. Anyone who wants to make a donation may drop it by the chamber office or call 887-2101. While the entertainment and the auction are part of the event, the big part of the evening is the recognition of local people who go above and beyond the call of duty. The chamber will name a citizen of the year, and treasure, each being selected for exemplifying service to community, church, professional and family. The 2007 Nevada County Farm Family will be honored as will the student and teacher of the year from each of the three schools. Tickets are $15. Dress is informal with and prizes will be awarded for best dressed in keeping with the theme. For more information or to reserve a seat, contact that chamber.
