Constables divided on money issueBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Nevada County Picayune For the second month in a row, Nevada County Constable Mike Mullins addressed the Nevada County Quorum Court. Mullins said his purpose for attending in February was to clear up some apparent misunderstandings. I could care less about a salary, Mullins said. He said he does believe the county should pay out-of-pocket expenses. You knew when you ran for office that there was no money, said Nevada County Judge Baker Butler. Mullins responded that there is a state statute that says he is to be reimbursed. The quorum court would have to appropriate funds, Butler responded. Thats what Im asking you to do, Mullins said. Mullins also objected to a statement in the Nevada County Picayune that indicated he was seeking aid. What I want is funding, Mullins said. Mullins went on to say that he is CEO of his township and then lodged a complaint against the Nevada County Sheriffs Office and Nevada County Sheriff Bobby Carlton. I want you to know what Im putting up with, Mullins said of Carlton. Justice of the Peace Willie Wilson interrupted. This is totally improper, Wilson said. Mullins left the meeting abruptly. Sean Clark, who was appointed constable in Emmet upon the death of the former constable, said Ive had nothing but cooperation out of the sheriffs office. Todd Prewitt voiced his support for Clarks statements. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
