The single occupant of a mobile home was pronounced dead at the scene of a Saturday morning fire, according to official reports Monday.

Margie Reed, 85, was apparently at home alone when the fire broke out. Nevada County Office of Emergency Services Coordinator Jim Cross said area firefighters were notified by the Nevada County Sheriffs Office shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Firefighters from five departments responded.

There was nothing we could do, Cross said. It was totally destroyed when we got there.

Reeds home was located on Cale Road about a mile north of Highway 299, according to Cross. He said firefighters recovered the body of Reed and of her dog from the remains of the mobile home.

Nevada County Coroner William Mullins said he ruled the death accidental, due to smoke inhalation.

Cross said there is no indication of what started the blaze and predicted that there would be no further investigation into the incident.
