A look back at the events of 2007 and ahead at tentative plans for 2008 was at the top of the agenda for the Prescott-Nevada County Health Alliances January meeting.

Janet McAdams presented an overview of the previous years events. Outreach programs, including the annual health fair, topped that list. On Feb. 24, Shady Grove Baptist Church joined with the PNCHA for a workshop on heart disease. Breakfast and lunch were provided to 74 area women who attended.

The Body Walk was held in February as part of Childrens Week activities. According to Nevada County Consumer Sciences Agent Amanda Rogers, the Body Walk will not be part of this years event.

Childrens Week for this year will be held on April 13. The theme for this years event is Im not just playing, Im learning. Additional information will be available over the next few weeks.

The annual health fair saw some changes in 2007 with the move to Munns Chapel. Patricia Blake, who headed up the event last year, said Munns Chapel plans to host the health fair again this year. Blake asked PNCHA members and guests to turn in suggestions and comments over the next few weeks to help with the planning.

Another change this year is the creation of a committee to combat substance abuse. The plan is to have this committee work on programs and education to stimulate awareness of the various types of drugs readily available to young people in the community and to help stem the tide of usage. Committee members are David Kassos, Patricia Blake, Jeanie Woods and Dana Stone.

Other events in the past year include the mass flu clinic, a stroke awareness program and prostrate cancer screenings.
