Nevada School Conducts Severe Weather Drill By Going Into Shelter At School

Published Wednesday, March 3, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

Nevada Elementary School students conducted their state severe weather drill by going into the four storm shelters in the elementary.

These rooms are used as regular classrooms.

Nevada is one of the few schools to have such specially designed rooms. The high school has three such rooms designed for regular use and storm shelter use.

The children do not have to get on the floor and or take additional cover.

During the last bad weather bout in the area, the after school activities of cheerleading, after school care, Odyssey of the Mind and tutoring went on as usual-without interruption - in the shelter classrooms.
