Sarah Lee Moore Lemley, 91, a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, died Dec. 15, 2007, at the Hospice House in Williamsburg, Va. She had been a resident of Williamsburg since 1974.

She was born Aug. 15, 1916, in Prescott. She is the daughter of the late Charles Henry Moore and Kathleen Brower Moore.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Retired Colonel Kenneth McRae Lemley; one son, Retired Colonel Kendall McRae Lemley; one daughter, Caroline Lemley Hedrick (Mrs. Robett E.); grandchildren, Kendall McRae Lemley Jr., Caroline Lemley Nadal, Sarah McRae Bridges and Katherine Hedrick Smith; and great-grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Lemley.

In 1938, she earned a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Arkansas and subsequently, taught in Emmet until her marriage in 1940. As an army wife, she was the perfect companion, accepting uncomplainingly her husbands assignments in both war and peace, following him whenever possible. She looked upon every posting as a new adventure. After her husbands retirement in 1970, they both served as interpreters at Colonial Williamsburg for eight years. Thereafter, they enjoyed travel and participation in a number of patriotic organizations. They particularly enjoyed fly fishing together. Throughout her adult life, she had an avid interest in needlework as student and teacher.

She was active in the Colonial Dames of America, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, the Huguenot Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Eighteen Twelve and others. Genealogical research was a major interest.

A grave side committal service wild be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope. Local arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charitable organization.
