New Fire Department WantedPublished Wednesday, March 3, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneSeveral people in the Pleasant Hill and Nubin Hill areas have expressed an interest in forming a fire department. A special meeting of community residents plan a public meeting for Thursday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the courthouse in Prescott. Because residents in those communities live five miles or more west of the nearest fire department they have to pay a higher premium for fire insurance on their homes. In addition, Nevada County Rescue Unit's fire department is on the east side of the railroad tracks in Prescott. "If there should be a fire of substantial size," William Mullins, who lives on Highway 19 North, said, "we would desperately need our own fire truck. "If anyone is interested in this project, come to the meeting and join in the discussions and voice your opinion," he said in a letter.
