Kitchen damaged when stove burnsBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in the Gurdon Times A small fire in a kitchen on Clark Street resulted in only minor damages on Friday, Nov. 30. According to a report on file at the Gurdon Police Department, Officer Jay Smithpeters responded with the Gurdon Fire Department to the report of a house fire at 702 E. Clark St. Upon arrival, Smithpeters was informed that the kitchen stove had caught on fire, but had been extinguished before the fire departments arrival. Smithpeters report indicates that therte was damage to the ceiling and stove. Water damage was also noted as a water hose was used to extinguish the fire. In an unrelated police report on the same day, Shawn Etue, 21, of 707 E. Crayton St. was issued a citation for theft of property after he was found to be in possession of stolen vehivle tags. According to a report on file at GPD, the owner of the tags had found them on a vehicle at the Crayton Street address. She then contacted police. When the officer arrived, he ran the tags through the Arkansas Crime Information Center computers to determine that they did belong to the victim. When officers confronted Etue at the residence, the report states that he told them that he had gotten the tags from a friend but would not disclose the friends identity. Other reports on file include a report of disorderly conduct at a business on E. Main Street. According to the report, taken on Nov. 28, a clerk at the business told police that a man entered the store, went into a store room and urinated in the floor. The man was not located.
