Holmon HousePublished Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in the Nevada County PicayuneHolmon House, 88, of Bryan, died Oct. 3, 2007. Holmon was born May 21, 1919, in Amity, to John and Etta House. He was raised by his paternal grandparents, Lee and Siddie House, when, at the age of two, his mother died in childbirth. His home was in Nevada County, and at the age of 12, he went courting to the adjoining county of Hempstead, where he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be, Marie Owen. On Nov. 1, 1940, they were married in Hope. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Four years after his marriage to Marie, their first blessing, Bettye Marie, was born and eight years following, their second blessing, Rebecca, was born. After Rebecca was grown, married and a proud mother, a tragedy befell the happy family of House. Rebecca and her husband, Ronald McDonald, were killed in a car accident, joining our Lord and leaving their 14-month-old son Gregory to be lovingly raised by Holmon and Marie. In the late 1970s, Holmon and Marie came to Bryan, where they worked with their daughter Bettye at Willow Oak Apartments. Holmon later left Willow Oaks and started Hand M Home Repair, from which he later retired. He was faithful member of the Twin City Church of Christ and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who were touched by his compassionate spirit. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Marie House; daughter and son-in-law, Bettye and Walter Kriehn of Bryan; grandchildren, Gregory McDonald, Richard Kriehn of Colton, Wash., and Regina Jess of Lebanon, Tenn.; and many cherished friends. Services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Chuck Durham officiating. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at the chapel. Interment was at Rest-Ever Cemetery in Bryan. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
