Christmas events around Prescott are being planned, including the annual Christmas parade, the window decorating contest and Christmas on the Square.

The Christmas parade is set for Dec. 6. Registration and line up is from 4-4:45 p.m. Judging will be at 5 p.m. and the parade will be held at 6 p.m. Prescott-Nevada County Chamber Director Mary Godwin said entrants are asked to pre-register by calling the chamber so that the line up can be planned.

The parade theme is A Home Town Christmas for the 39th. Godwin said the chamber board came up with the idea as a way to honor the local military personnel, especially those in the 39th who are preparing for deployment.

Divisions are floats of more than nine fee, mini floats, cars or trucks, decorated bicycles, decorated four-wheelers, decorated golf carts, best dressed animal, marching group and best theme. Cash prizes are offered for all divisions with the exception of the best theme.

Parade participants will begin at the corner of West Second and West Vine streets near the First Methodist Church.

Parade winners will be announced during Christmas on the Square, slated to begin on the courthouse square directly after the parade. A special appearance by Santa is expected and the snowball avalanche will be among the evenings activities. The avalanche is an event in which ping pong balls are thrown onto the lawn using a snowblower. The balls indicate discounts and free products from area merchants.

Breakfast with Santa has also been planned. The date is Dec. 15 at the Potlatch Building on the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Distribution for the toy drive will be held that same day. See upcoming editions of the Picayune for more details.
