The Gurdon Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Christmas parade to be held Tuesday, Dec. 4.

According to information obtained from chamber President Stephen Orsburn, the theme for the parade will be Parade of Trees. The parade will begin at dark, and a rain-out date has been set for Friday, Dec. 7, incase of inclement weather on the parade date.

Entertainment will begin on Main Street at 5 p.m., and local church, clubs and youth groups are invited to set up booths to sell coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn or other snacks, Orsburn said.

Traditional floats, vehicles, ATVs, bicycles and motorcycles may be entered into the parade. Cash prizes will be given in each division with bicycles and motorcycles being grouped together.

Orsburn said there are a few new rules this year. The first rule states that only floats that are entered by Nov. 29 will be judged. Floats may be entered after that date, but they will not be eligible to receive cash prizes.

Also new this year, only four wheelers that are decorated will be allowed to participate in the parade.

The chamber encourages everyone to light their floats up so they can be seen as they roll down Main Street. Entries will be judged on the use of lights, theme and originality.

All parade entries are due by Thursday, Nov. 29. Entry forms my be picked up at First State Bank. They can be turned in to Michelle at First State Bank or mailed to the chamber office at P.O. Box 187, Gurdon, AR 71743.

For more information, contact the chamber office at 353-2661.
